Module Outline

This module builds on the foundations covered in the Introduction to Programming module to introduce more complex programming concepts and techniques required in the development of Digital and Technology Solutions. The module covers advanced fundamentals of object-oriented programming, including: such as objects and classes, encapsulation, object state, coupling, cohesion and modularity. The module recaps previous coverage of basic software development issues such as class design, testing, debugging and documentation.

Module learning outcomes

Explain and exploit subclasses, inheritance and interfaces in Java to produce modular, well-organised code

Apply underlying concepts to implement simple algorithms and data structures in Java

Evidence knowledge of basic concepts and principles of object-orientation such as objects and classes, encapsulation, object state, coupling, cohesion and modularity

Deploy techniques to produce graphical user interfaces for Java programs
