Module Outline
This module is designed to help you find your feet as an undergraduate student and begin your journey as a geographer. Through weekly lectures and interactive small group seminars, you’ll explore how geography has developed as a discipline, what its key concepts are and the different ways geographers apply their skills and knowledge in practice. You’ll also gain essential skills for academic success, including reading, writing, library and online research, teamwork, fieldwork and using AI tools effectively.
By the end of the module you’ll have a practical toolkit of skills to support your studies and the confidence to navigate your degree

Identity and summarise knowledge and understanding of changing conceptions of Geography as an academic discipline and as a practice.
Demonstrate an understanding of the necessary skills and attributes to become a successful geographer.
Demonstrate good communication skills in written and oral formats.
Demonstrate an ability to work effectively as part of a team.
