Module Outline
This module introduces students to the key concepts and underpinning logic of quantitative social research methods and data analysis, including statistical testing and inference. Students will consider the selection of analysis techniques suitable for their research question and type of data, run analysis using specialist software, interpret results and communicate findings. The module will equip students with practical and transferable skills research skills for their final year project and for employment.
Module learning outcomes
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of hypothesis testing and statistical inference, including formulating a suitable research question and associated hypothesis, selecting an appropriate test and interpreting the result
Manipulate data and conduct statistical analysis using an appropriate computer package.
Evaluate the strengths and limitations of different primary and secondary quantitative data sources and analysis techniques.
Interpret analysis results and communicate findings using tables, graphs and narrative.
