Module Outline
This module explores the relationships between corruption and the media, sport, environmental governance and gender. Each of these are vibrant areas of research, bringing with them instructive perspectives, ideas and cases, as well as lively debates that challenge mainstream ideas about corruption and corruption control.
Exploring the intersections between these issues will provide you with a variety of views on how corruption manifests and the varied (and often unequal) distributions of harm it inflicts on individuals, groups, institutions and societies. From the effects of media capture on democratic discourses to the gendered dimensions of sexual corruption, this module engages with cutting-edge research and emerging issues in corruption studies.
Module learning outcomes
Understand how corruption intersects with a range of social institutions and issues
Apply different theoretical frameworks to understand how and why corruption arises, manifests and is sustained at each intersection
Critically analyse the impacts/ harms of corruption in different contexts and on different social groups
Critically evaluate approaches to mitigating corruption and its impacts in different settings
Demonstrate the ability to evaluate academic research and identify research gaps
Develop the ability to communicate complex academic ideas and debates to a range of audiences
