This module introduces you to a range of approaches in contemporary performance practice. You’ll focus on a number of companies and artists. These will be used as case studies at a practical and theoretical level.
Topics will include new strategies in composition/devising and collaborative methodologies. The module ends with the performance of collaboratively created short pieces.

- research skills, especially into histories of contemporary performance.
Module learning outcomes
- Develop a greater understanding of diverse genres in contemporary performance and the ability to apply these in your own work, critically and creatively.
- Demonstrate knowledge of a number of significant contemporary performance makers/groups and a range of techniques and methods developed for making performance.
- Employ a critical vocabulary to analyse theatre and performance made by contemporary artists.
- Collaborate with commitment, openness and sensitivity in the realisation of group-led processes.
- Develop your reflective practice through analysis of individual and group creative processes.
- Manage and deliver independent projects involving the coordination of workloads, deadlines, production targets and project objectives.
