Research

I am a composer and have written scores for many soloists and ensembles including the and the which I founded. My recent work for the New Music Players revoiced early English polyphonic music as part of a project on expressive affinity and transformation. This project also includes a series of interviews with leading British composers for the online journal .

I have written three operas including a children's opera for Mahogany Opera Group. 

I led an interdisciplinary project on networking technologies and the experience of ensemble performance. I also worked on music and silent film, for which I produced original scores for both early film and in collaboration with film makers and visual artists today.

At Sussex I am Professor of Composition in Music. My outputs include compositions, compositions with electronics, compositions with film, music and visuals including film music, music for 'silent' cinema, music theatre and opera, and collaborative papers on ensemble performance with technology.
