Entry requirements and application information

• Undergraduate entry requirements

  Undergraduate Foundation Year

  Thanaweya Amma – General Secondary Education Certificate (GSCE)

  A pass of 70% is required for entry into the foundation year.

  Additional subject-specific requirements may apply depending on the undergraduate course you are applying for.

  If you do not meet the grade requirements for direct entry into the Foundation Year or Year 1, please refer to the for the relevant foundation year entry criteria. 

  Undergraduate Year 1

  Thanaweya Amma - General Secondary Education Certificate (GSCE)

  In addition to good grades in the GSCE, applicants require a foundation year for Year 1 entry.

  Bachelor degree from a higher institute

  Applicants with this qualification from a recognised institute would be considered for Year 1 entry on a case-by-case basis. Additional subject-specific requirements may apply depending on the undergraduate course for which you are applying.

  Undergraduate Year 2

  Bachelor degree from a university

  Applicants with this qualification from a recognised university would be considered for Year 2 entry on a case-by-case basis. Additional subject-specific requirements may apply depending on the undergraduate course for which you are applying.

  Please note that direct entry into Year 2 is not available for our Law, Psychology or Social Work courses.

  English language entry requirements 

  Typical offers for undergraduate and foundation year courses include a standard overall IELTS score of 6.0, with a minimum of 5.5 in each of the four components.

• Masters entry requirements

  Academic entry requirements

  A degree is required, with a minimum overall grade of 70-75% or GPA 3.3-3.5 depending on the Masters course chosen and your awarding university.

  Additional subject-specific requirements may apply based on the postgraduate course for which you are applying. These entry requirements are intended as guidelines. If you have questions about your qualifications or if they are not listed here, please contact us.

  Typical offers for a Masters course include a standard overall IELTS score of 6.0, with a minimum of 5.5 in each of the four components.

• PhD entry requirements

  Academic entry requirements

  A degree is required, with a minimum overall grade of 70-75% depending on your awarding university in a subject relevant to your chosen PhD course.

  However, if you do not meet the academic requirements, you may still be considered for the degree if you can provide evidence of extensive work experience in a related field.

  These entry requirements are intended as guidelines. If you have questions about your qualifications or if they are not listed here, please contact us.

  Typical offers for a PhD degree include a higher overall IELTS score of 6.5, with a minimum of 6.0 in each of the four components.

For the 2026-27 academic year, Egyptian students are eligible for awards from our Faculties and can also apply for the Chancellor’s International Scholarship.

Life at Sussex

Sussex has long enjoyed being a popular destination for Egyptian students.

Safety on campus

We offer a safe campus community for our students, supported by our 24/7 on-site security team who are contactable 24 hours a day if you have any concerns. The Security Centre is equipped 24/7 to respond to emergency situations and includes CCTV and other crime-prevention equipment. .

Food 

You can buy international products from our weekly on-campus market, and international supermarkets in the city.

There are also in the city, ranging from Moroccan to Lebanese.

Religion

We have a Muslim Student Centre and a Muslim prayer facility on campus. There is a coptic church and three mosques in Brighton.

Living in Brighton

Sussex campus is located just a 10-minute walk from the home of Brighton and Hove Albion FC, giving students the opportunity to experience Premier League football and matchday culture in the UK.

Brighton city centre is also known for its small independent markets, cafés and shopping areas such as the Lanes and North Laine, which are popular places for students to explore, socialise and spend time with friends throughout the year.
