Entry requirements and application information

• Undergraduate entry requirements

  Undergraduate Foundation Year

  Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) – awarded 2026 onwards

  This qualification would be considered for foundation year entry with grades of B or above.

  Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) – awarded up to and including 2025

  Applicants holding a Pre-Engineering or Pre-Medical stream qualification will be considered for foundation year entry with a minimum score of 50% or above.

  Applicants with a Humanities or General Science stream qualification are not eligible for direct International Foundation Year entry but may apply for Year 1 entry upon successful completion of a recognised foundation programme.

  If you do not meet the grade requirements for direct entry into the Foundation Year or Year 1, please refer to the for the relevant foundation year entry criteria. 

  Undergraduate Year 1

  Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC)

  Applicants will be required to complete an international foundation year alongside the HSSC for entry into Year 1.

  Bachelor degree

  Applicants who have completed one year of a four-year degree, or two years of a three-year degree at a recognised university will be considered for Year 1 entry.

  Undergraduate Year 2

  A three-year (Honours) degree or two years of study from a four-year degree from a recognised university in Pakistan may be considered for direct entry into Year 2.

  Additional subject-specific requirements may apply depending on the undergraduate course you are applying for.

  Please note that direct entry into Year 2 is not available for our Law, Psychology or Social Work courses.

  English language entry requirements

  Typical offers for undergraduate and foundation year courses include an overall IELTS score of 6.0, with a minimum of 5.5 in each of the four components. Please visit our English language requirements page for the full range of English language qualifications that we accept.

• Masters entry requirements

  Academic entry requirements

  A four-year Bachelor’s degree is required, with an overall mark of at least 60%-65% or CGPA 2.4-2.6 depending on your university and chosen Masters course. Or a Masters degree following a three-year Bachelor’s degree with an overall mark of at least 60%-65% or CGPA 2.4-2.6 depending on your university and chosen Masters course.

  Additional subject-specific requirements may apply based on the postgraduate program you are applying for. These entry requirements are intended as guidelines. If you have questions about your qualifications or if they are not listed here, please feel free to contact us.

• PhD entry requirements

  Academic entry requirements

  A four-year Bachelor’s degree is required with an overall mark of at least 65%-70% or CGPA 2.6-2.8 depending on your university and in a subject relevant to your chosen PhD course. Or a Master’s degree following a three-year degree with an overall mark of at least 65%-70% or CGPA 2.6-2.8 depending on your university.

  However, if you do not meet the academic requirements, you may still be considered for the degree if you can provide evidence of extensive work experience in a related field.

We offer a safe campus community for our students, supported by our 24/7 on-site security team, who are contactable 24-hours a day if you have any concerns. The Security Centre is equipped 24/7 to respond to emergency situations and includes CCTV and other crime prevention equipment. .

A degree from Sussex is internationally recognised and our Pakistani alumni have gone on to do incredible things.

Notable alumni include Shamshad Akhtar, appointed by the UN Secretary-General as United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific in December 2013.

Dr Akhtar also served as Governor of the Central Bank of Pakistan from 2006 to 2009; Vice President of the World Bank’s Middle East and North Africa Region; and held a range of senior posts in the Asian Development Bank.
