Prejudice, Discrimination and Intergroup Relations (C8569)

Autumn teaching

On this module, you’ll explore psychological theories of prejudice, discrimination and intergroup relations. You’ll apply theory to multi-ethnic and racial contexts across the world, including the UK, US and Turkey.

You’ll examine:

  • key issues in the study of intergroup relations
  • the perceptions and experiences of majority and minority group members
  • classic and modern theory and research on prejudice and intergroup relations
  • applications of theory to pressing social issues, such as racism, sexism and ageism.

Contact hours and workload

This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 22 hours of contact time and about 128 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology.
